It is rumored that a considerable update for the Playstation 5 is on the way, with full Discord integration and the capacity to stream PS5 games via the cloud included. Since its launch, Sony has released a number of major updates for the PS5 to add additional features and upgrade the user-interface.

The latest version of software for the PS5, version 6.00, was released in 2022 and featured 1440p display support and Game Lists that help people arrange their games. Usually, these substantive system updates come out a few months apart and focus on stability. There has recently been an unveiling of what the next big upgrade to the PS5 will be, and it appears to include two essential aspects.

According to Insider Gaming, PS5 system software will be updated on March 8, 2023 with Discord integration. These rumors and leaks of Discord for the PS5 data were reported back in 2022 and reportedly have stayed the same. It’s important to remember though, to take these kinds of reports with a pinch of salt.

Version 7.00 brings about a great addition, as reported by Insider Gaming, with gamers being able to stream titles on their PS5 consoles. This would reduce the amount of storage used, but gamers can expand the capacity by adding an extra SSD to their setup. According to the same sources, the feature has been in the works for several months under the project title of “Cronus.”

Additionally, Insider Gaming has revealed that PS5 titles will be accessible in a cloud-streaming format as a benefit of PlayStation Plus Premium, the top level of the new and improved PS Plus. Subscribers of the Premium package can enjoy playing a variety of video games across multiple PlayStation systems, making the PS5 titles an additional perk. That said, cloud streaming is not accessible in all locations around the world, so this feature may also only be available to select areas.

Sony is expected to start beta testing the 7.00 update in the near future, with the trial ending on January 30th. It has been reported that beta testers cannot use PS5 integration with Discord for the duration of testing. An official announcement is expected to give more information about the update in the future, as Sony usually provides details about software updates before their release.
