Someone has taken Nvidia’s upcoming RTX Remix modding tool and used it to incorporate ray tracing effects into the game Morrowind, and the outcome is very remarkable.

A clip has been released featuring Morrowind, the classic 2002 RPG by Bethesda, running with RTX enabled. Nvidia announced their RTX Remix modding tool last year allowing modders to include ray tracing technologies into older games, and people have already put it to use. With many aging games looking out of date, viewers will be eager to see what it looks like when given a modern overhaul.

Given that Morrowind turned 20 in 2022 and Skyrim launched in 2011, the older Elder Scrolls 3 game has shown its age while the modding community comes to its rescue in terms of making visual improvements. It is particularly with the third game in the RPG series that the biggest difference can be seen.

In a recent YouTube video from ALG46, the classic game Morrowind has been given a modern update by utilizing RTX Remix and Nvidia’s DLSS and Deep Learning Super Sampling features. This gives the game a seriously enhanced look with remarkable lighting and shadows and improved textures and character models. While the game still looks like it originally did over 20 years ago, the visibility is considerably better through this mod - but it’ll only work for interior locations.

Some gamers may question if it is still worthwhile playing Morrowind, as it was released in the early 2000s. While it definitely does not compare to modern video games visually, it remains a classic RPG with a distinct aesthetic and the in-depth story Bethesda is known for.

When it comes to Elder Scrolls, everyone knowing of the fantasy series will most likely claim Skyrim to be their favorite. However, many remember the older titles with just as much nostalgia.
