Marvel Snap will release its much-awaited PVP Battle Mode on January 31, provided that no difficulties arise at the last minute.

The information was advertised on Marvel Snaps' official webpage. Kent-Erik Hagman from Second Dinners, who is the associate design director, also gave greater insight on the game in the Unity Blog. This lets players know what to anticipate.

Marvel Snaps Battle Mode comes as a piece of the Version 1.0 update and it sets two adversaries facing each other over consecutive rounds. Both duelists start out with 10 points of health and their mission is to reduce the rival’s health to zero prior to them accomplishing the same to you.

Players will gain an advantage if they are aware of the cards played in each battle, in order to prepare for future rounds. It may also be useful to conceal a card until later in the game to catch the adversary off guard.

During the development phase of Battle Mode, there were a number of changes that took place such as shifting the health value and introducing a Reality Stone that would change the cards before each game. However, the team soon realized that the changes they made didn’t necessarily equate to a more entertaining and enjoyable game.

Following all the examinations, the squad refined a strategy to make video games exciting while still only lasting approximately 20 minutes. This estimation is achievable through the High Risk Rounds that start at two Damage, thereby making it much more dangerous.

This is only the beginning for Marvel Snaps Battle Mode, and you can only compete against others in your own matchmaking region for the time being, but global matchmaking will be available at a later date.

If everything works out as planned, on January 31, a Series Drop will take place. Series 5 cards (the most unique ones) will be lowered to Series 4 while Series 4 will be shifted to Series 3. As a result of the Series change, the cards in Collector Reserves will become ten times more available, and there will be more affordable choices in the Token Shop.

These drops will occur one times a month, and players that get a Series 5 card prior to it going down will be presented with a special original edition emblem. This element will be introduced in the future though.
